Barrel 188: This Little Figgie

Barrel 188: This Little Figgie

This Little Figgie is a big, malty golden ale that has been aged in local distiller Charbay Brandy Barrels since 2014. Deep garnet brown in color, we added organic California black mission figs that contribute to this beer’s soda pop sweetness, creamy mouthfeel, brandy booziness, and huge malt and fig flavors.

Production Notes
We brewed this giant monster of a golden ale specifically to put into barrels in December 2014. Our dear friend Marko Karakasevic from Charbay Distillery sold us these barrels, which had been used to age their brandy for over 30 years! When our brewing team tasted this beer in June 2016 the booziness component overpowered the pallet so we introduced California black mission figs to bring some balance. We sourced the figs from Andy's market in Sebastopol and added them on August 4th 2016 and racked the beer just before bottling in September. Only 336 bottles were produced.
Food Pairing Notes
This Little Figgie has many complex layers so paring this beer with food is an open cook book! There is a smoky sweetness that would pair well with BBQ and char. There is also the sweet caramel component that could complement carmel, toffee and chocolate to perfection!
Aging Your Wild Beer
Our Wild Beers are bottled when our Brewers believe they are ready to drink. If you would like to live "on the wild side" and age your bottles please do so at your own risk! Secondary fermentation and aging in bottle can produce flavors and bottle pressures that we cannot anticipate! Please store at 40 Degrees.
